Vitamins
True or False. The best way to get the vitamins and minerals that the body needs is by taking vitamin tablets.
a, b, c, d, e... - f? - No that's a K. K? OK! These letters are also Vitamins. Vitamins and minerals are crucial.
They're nutrients that your body needs to function as it should. Most vitamins your body can't produce on it's own, so you need to add them through the food that you eat. Can't I just take a pill? Well, there are lots of vitamin pills that you could get BUT most vitamins you only need in a very small amount. Too much of them could be harmful.
But if you get the vitamins from some good food, you can't overdose. Isn't that better? Aaaah! Help! Don't worry, it's just a power failure.
Are you scared of the dark? Vitamin A would help you see better in the dark, so then you might not be so scared. Eat some carrots. They contain plenty of Vitamin A. Do you think I'm a rabbit?
Are rabbits afraid of the dark? Hm, ok, point taken. Just give me some "crunchy orange vision-aids" then. Or get the stupid lights back on! Soon!
B-vitamins - essential for your metabolism, immune system, and cell division - are not one, but eight different vitamins. All B-vitamins - except B12 - are found in dairy products, meat, and cereals. B12 is only found in dairy products and meat. Vitamin C will help keep colds and infections at bay. There is plenty of Vitamin C in fruits, vegetables and berries - especially citrus and kiwi. - D-vita... - Stop!
Please can we get the light back on again? Why don't you open the curtains and let the sunlight in? Under your skin there is a fat called Cholesterol. When the sun shines on your skin, Vitamin D forms naturally in the cholesterol. Pretty handy, eh?
But what if you don't get enough sunshine? Don't worry. Then you can get vitamin D from eating dairy products or fatty fish. Vitamin D is strengthening for your immune system and fights fatigue, and depression. Vitamin E protects the fat in your body from oxidization and so helps to prevent calcification, which can block your bloodstream.
Luckily for Leon it also helps wounds heal and prevents getting scars. Vitamin E is found in avocado, nuts, seeds, and eggs. Vitamin K is also helpful in healing Leon's wound. You'll find Vitamin K in most foods but especially in green cabbage, strawberries, and spinach. But wait, this is stupid, it should be called Vitamin F.
Everyone knows that F comes after E. Not K. Maybe... if the science world had kept on naming vitamins in alphabetical order. But actually, vitamin K got its name from what it does: It helps the blood to clot - to coagulate.
It was a Dane who discovered that, and named it Vitamin K after... Which is Danish for "Coagulate". Ok. So now I think can read the board. A- B- C- D- E- K!
Well done Leon. And another great thing with some vitamins is that they, together with some minerals work as antioxidants: kind of superheroes. Oh, cool! Let's talk more about antioxidants in the film about minerals. - Do it now! - No, you have to wait. - No, now! - Stop it, Leon. Now!
