True or false? It is important to understand exactly why you're feeling sad before going to the Youth Guidance Center. This way, they can be more helpful to you,
Do you have questions about the body, or about love, or sex? Are you in love, but worried about what your friends will think about it? Do you feel insecure about your sexual orientation? Do you feel sad or worried about something? Do you suspect you are pregnant?
Some things you may not want to discuss with your parents. Or with your siblings or friends. But we all need someone to talk to sometimes. Someone who listens, someone who understands, and who can give practical advice. Maybe you can find such people at the Youth guidance centre?
The Youth guidance centre is exactly what the name implies. It is a centre for young people, and there are midwives, doctors, mentors and others who are willing to listen, and guide you. You can ask or tell about anything. For instance ... … it’s usual to want to talk about the body. The way it changes during puberty.
About breasts and genitals, and if you are alright the way you are. Perhaps you are worried about your weight, or because you often feel tired. Or, you might feel sad because of something that has happened: a row? Perhaps you have experienced an abuse? Sometimes you are worried about school or money or something else.
Sometimes you don’t even know why you feel low. You are just sad. This is nothing strange. Everybody is sad sometimes, and it’s a part of life, but it’s important to talk to someone about it. Perhaps you’re in love.
That can be wonderful. But sometimes love is hard to handle. They may not be in love with you, or might not even know who you are. Your family or your friends can have opinions. Maybe you are afraid of what they will think, or about what they will do.
Regardless of what worries you, there is support and help to be found at the youth guidance centre. Perhaps you have had sex? Or might want to? Discovering your sexuality is exciting, and it raises a lot of emotions and questions. At the youth guidance centre, you can talk to someone about it.
You can also get condoms or other contraceptives and get advice on how to protect yourself from getting pregnant or catching a sexually transmitted infection. If you have had unprotected sex, you can get an emergency contraceptive pill, or test yourself for sexually transmitted infections. or test if you are pregnant. Youth guidance centres are found throughout Sweden, in all counties and regions. All young people are welcome.
Are you afraid that someone might find out what you are thinking about? No problem. The people you meet cannot tell anyone that you have been there, or what you’ve been talking about. Not to your parents, not to your teachers, not to anyone. They have a professional secrecy.
The secrecy can only be broken if you allow it yourself, if you need to get into hospital care, if the staff believes that you are maltreated, maybe if you are subject to violence, or if you have commited, or been the victim of a serious crime. And you can also ask questions anonymously. Go to umo.se. If you want guidance in another language, you can use the address youmo.se.
