Michael and Jenny have investigated which type of juice is more acidic: orange juice or pineapple juice. Now they have written a science report about their experiment. Let's take a closer look at how the report is presented. They started from their notes that they made during the experiment. The more detailed the notes, the easier it is to write a report.

The title shows what the report is all about. To make it easier to navigate through the report, it has to be divided into distinct sections. These sections follow some basic rules. Here we see the purpose of the study - to examine which juice is more acidic. Jenny and Michael each had a guess about the outcome of the experiment - an hypothesis.

Before the experiment, Jenny thought that orange juice was more acidic than pineapple juice. Michael expected that pineapple juice would be more acidic. In the experiment, they wanted to test their hypotheses to see if they were correct. Here we have a description of how they performed the experiment - what procedure they used. They examined the acidity of ten brands of pineapple juice and ten brands of orange juice from different manufacturers.

To measure the acidity, they used a pH-meter. And then they calculated the average pH value for each type of juice. A simple - and clear - description. Now, let's look at the result. According to their measurements, orange juice has a pH of three point five, while the pineapple juice has a higher pH value - three point eight.

In the discussion there is room for comments about the experiment. Maybe there are other factors that could affect the result? Or maybe there are other ways to perform the experiment? The conclusion refers back to the hypothesis. In their investigation, orange juice is more acidic than pineapple juice.

Jenny's hypothesis was correct. The report was structured in the following way: Title, purpose, and hypothesis... Procedure, result, and discussion... And conclusion. At the end of the report, they have included a table, where you can see the values from each measurement.
